Narrative shorts and commissioned films — written, directed and produced under Le Grain Visible.

The visible grain — the crystals on analogue film, the seed inside the fruit, the texture of wood and stone, the gentle madness we each carry. The beauty of imperfection that digital tries so hard to imitate.

About

The maker behind the grain

Jean-Baptiste Canac is a French-Australian, award-winning screenwriter, director and photographer based in Brisbane.

Born in Paris, he has had a lifelong love affair with storytelling and capturing images — playing with analogue photography since childhood, developing his own aesthetic through multiple exposures. He holds a Master's in Mechanical Engineering and spent over twenty years managing bridge and construction projects around the world.

In 2021 the call to tell stories "the film way" became irrepressible. After a directing course at AFTRS, he wrote and directed the multi-award-winning dark comedy Wendy & Vee (2022), and wrote, directed and co-produced the Cherry Bounce commercial (2024). He now develops further short films and writes feature and TV screenplays.
